World Series Game 7 Draws 51M Audience Members Across the United States, Canada and Japan Markets.

The nail-biting extra-inning contest that saw the Dodgers defeat the Toronto Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a total 51M spectators in the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. Major League Baseball announced this is the most-watched World Series finale after the 1991 contest between the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday memorable game averaged 27.33 million viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. According to Nielsen, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 edition final game between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07M. This marks a sixteen percent improvement compared to the previous Game 7 between the Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game ranked fourth, the fourth game was seventh, Game 5 was eighth, and the third game landed in 13th place.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged over 11 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This made it the most-watched English program in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 PM local time, it averaged 12 million viewers. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – drew 13.1 million spectators, making it the highest-rated World Series matchup on a single network in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series averaged 15.71 million audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Including the opening game broadcast on Univision, the complete US viewership reached 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels drew over 8 million viewers, an 8% increase compared to last year and the network’s best postseason performance after 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the World Series was broadcast in over 200 countries and territories by 44 media partners in 16 various tongues.
